Black Diasporic and Planetary Futures

In an unsettling present, what does the promise of “Futures” mean for Black Diasporas and for the Planet at Large?
The university, liberal nation-states, and the planet at large are experiencing immense moments of transition, and collectively, we are all grappling with existential questions about what it means to be human and to live on earth in the face of impending climate crises.
What liberatory possibilities exist for us to facilitate conversations from the space of the university—as an ally for broader creative and community initiatives?
This initiative invites inquiry into post-liberation dreams and beyond human ways of knowing.
We explore transdisciplinary methodological practices, inspired by more than human and multiple ecological encounters, that shape our attentions to, and responsibilities toward global and local issues. We center Blackness as both a critical and speculative methodological approach, as well as in the tangible and embodied experience of Black individuals and communities. A focus on planetary futures as part of this initiative is an effort to critically and creatively engage with these felt, multifaceted, and transdisciplinary conditions and questions in a way that promotes building alliances and abilities, not just to critique and tear down. In so doing, this project explores transdisciplinary methodological practices, inspired by more than human and multiple ecological encounters, that shape our attentions to, and responsibilities toward, how we can navigate these broader formations.
How can we develop unruly, unsettling, and alternative pedagogical approaches and practices that prepare us to meet our current day challenges in a way that reflect our emerging reality—co-inhabitants of a ruined, neoliberal, increasingly violent globe within a multifaceted planet?
